Mining, Ports & Rail

Improving Performance and Reliability at Scale

Pipar brings deep expertise to the sector, with a proven history delivering automation, Digital Twin, and lidar-based solutions across major coal terminals, mines, and rail operations — driving throughput, safety, and reliability for some of Australia's most critical export infrastructure.

We have the capability to significantly improve systems of any scale, even where no established automation approach exists.

Saraji Train Load Out Automation

A Best-In-Class Train Load Out Automation Solution

Pipar's Train Load Out automation system at Saraji utilises multi-beam lidars alongside traditional industrial automation sensors to provide a reliable, performant loading system capable of operating unsupervised. This system pushes the limits of "old-school" clamshell train loading, maximising wagon volumes while increasing payload accuracy and minimising spillage.

WICET Dump Station Automation

Raising the Bar with Lidar-Driven Train Unloading Systems

Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal (WICET) had disparate systems all struggling to provide reliable train tracking and identification. Pipar automated the system from the ground up, installing cutting-edge 3D lidar sensors to create a single, unified source of train tracking and identification. The result: a fully autonomous system controlling triggers, feeders, and the wagon vibrator from one reliable data source, reducing delays and eliminating manual intervention.

Caval Ridge Reclaimer Automation

Unlocking the Full Potential of Yard Machines

Following Pipar’s upgrade of the train load out automation system at the Caval Ridge Mine (CVM) it became clear that the outloading bottleneck had shifted to its product reclaimer. Through the addition of 3D lidars, a digital twin-based control system was deployed which has effectively removed reclaim delays. This upgrade has taken the reclaimer from a heavily supervised yard machine to a reliable autonomous workhorse.

Automatic Tyre Monitoring System

Automatic Peace of Mind

Pipar's tyre thermal monitoring system at Daunia mine uses dual Flir thermal cameras and custom image-processing algorithms to detect hot spots on the tyres of passing haul trucks. This provides an early indicator of cut separations that can lead to catastrophic tyre failure or spontaneous combustion at fuel depots. Deployed on a solar-powered, forklift-portable stand at the entrance to a fuel bay, the system automatically tracks each truck, analyses all four rear tyres in every pass, and alerts maintenance personnel with thermal imagery and hotspot data within seconds of detection.

Caval Ridge Bridge Overheight Detection

Advanced Road Safety Utilising 3D Lidar

Following a critical bridge strike in 2024, Pipar delivered a purpose built overheight vehicle detection system for the Peak Downs Highway underpass at Caval Ridge Mine. Using long-range 3D lidar sensors and real time vehicle profiling, the system provides a two-stage early warning and final alarm to prevent overheight vehicles from reaching the bridge. The solution has proved itself by preventing any further bridge strikes, which has significantly improved road safety in the Caval Ridge region.
